The State of Washington, Douglass Commonwealth (DC) Admission Act (2021-2022)

The State of Washington, Douglass Commonwealth (DC) Admission Act, HR 51 and S. 51, is the legislation which would grant DC residents the rights of full citizenship enjoyed by Americans living in the 50 states: Namely, full representation in the US House and US Senate, and a locally elected government free from Congressional interference. The bill defines the residential and commercial areas of the District of Columbia as the State of Washington, D.C. ("Douglass Commonwealth"), a 51st state separated from the territory of the federal government, which would continue to exist as the District of Columbia. NOTE: HR 51 PASSED THE US HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES BY A VOTE OF 216-208 ON APRIL 22, 2021.
